When Jesus heard of the death of John the Baptist, Jesus departed from there in a boat to retire to a deserted place, but the people knew, and the multitude of the cities followed him on foot. 14When she landed, seeing this large multitude of Jesus, she moved with compassion toward her and healed her sick. 15It was afternoon. Grouped around him, the disciples said to him, "This place is deserted and the time is advanced. Fire these people to buy food in the village." 16Jesus answered and said, "It is not necessary. Give him something to eat." "But," they said, "we have here but five loaves and two fishes." 18 "Bring us," he told them. 19And he sent the multitude to sit down in the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and lifted up their eyes to heaven, and blessed them. Then he broke the loaves and gave them to his disciples, who distributed them to the people. 20All ate and were filled, and they took up of the leftover baskets twelve full baskets. Now the guests were about five thousand men, not including women and children.
